Nalandabodhi Canada is a network of meditation centres, study groups, and individual members committed to exploring a path of spiritual practice and discovery rooted in the wisdom teachings of the Kagyu and Nyingma lineages of Tibetan Buddhism. Our centres and study groups cultivate intellectual openness and precision within an atmosphere of support and encouragement for each individual’s journey.

Established in 1997 by The Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche under the guidance of Khenpo Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche, Nalandabodhi is a nonprofit organization dedicated to continuing a genuine lineage of Tibetan Buddhism within the modern international community.

 

DPR Pays Tribute to E. Gene Smith,1936-2010

Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche recently released a statement on the passing of E. Gene Smith, the legendary Buddhist preservationist who passed away in New York City on December 16, 2010. The following is an excerpt:

"Many people were saddened by the passing of E. Gene Smith, a peerless champion of Buddhist learning and a walking treasure of knowledge. Gene's incomparable scholarship of Buddhism in general, and Tibetan Buddhist history in particular, makes his passing a great loss. Like all of those whose lives and work were touched by his deeds, I, too, was incredibly saddened. I offer my heartfelt condolences and prayers to Gene's family members, as well as to all of those who loved Gene and relied upon him as a mentor, a source of wisdom, love and an inspiration."

Message from DPR Regarding the Earthquake in the Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Yushu

I am very saddened by the news of the devastating earthquake that struck Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture in Qinghai Province. Reports indicate that a great number of people have died, been injured, or lost their homes.

Early information also indicates that the monastery and monastic college of one of my beloved teachers, The Very Venerable Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche, suffered great destruction, and that many monastic and lay members of the community have been killed or injured. Thrangu Tashi Choling is one of the most important Karma Kagyu monasteries in Eastern Tibet, and the main seat of H.E. Traleg Kyabgon Rinpoche and The Very Venerable Khenchen Thrangu Rinpoche.

As His Holiness Karmapa has advised, we can help those affected by this tragedy with prayers to ease their pain. I would also like to request my own students and sangha to recite the Heart Sutra and to give as much support as you can.
